What this Chapter Covers
This chapter covers Symbian OS concepts that you need to understand in order to develop code for UIQ 3 smartphones. It is implicit in the rest of the book that you are familiar with the subjects described here.
There are already a number of Symbian Press books specifically about C++ on Symbian OS, and if this chapter was as comprehensive as those, our book would be very large indeed! Instead, in this chapter, we briefly describe each of the key topics and the aspects of them that commonly cause problems. You can treat this chapter as a summary of the core knowledge required to write good C++ on UIQ 3.
If you are already an expert at working on Symbian OS, you may choose to skip or skim read this chapter, although you may also find it a good resource to confirm that you know the fundamentals. If you are new to C++ programming on Symbian OS, this chapter will allow you to become quickly familiar with the essential information. At the end of each section we list the resources that cover the subject in more detail, for those that are interested in a deeper understanding, or pursuing formal accreditation.
